The front page of the site has a list of links to all areas, even dynamically generated pages. I have also generated a google XML sitemap that is in the root directory, and submitted to google using the webmaster tools.

Over the last few weeks since submitting the sitemap, most of my pages are being listed as supplemental results in googles SERP's.

Is this be because I have both links to all areas in the index page and then these same links in the sitemap?

Is your sitemap absolutely essential? If not then I would suggest that you remove it. If you don't benefit from it in anyway, there is not much reason in creating one in the first place.

      • Do your pages contain a significant amounts of similar content (i.e. the HTML for the page template, does that make up say 90% of your HTML)?
      • Are the page <title> tags unique to each page?
      • Are your Meta Description tags unique to each page?
