Whats your opinion on using modrewrite to change my URLS to easily readable paths.

      eg. http://mysite.com/review/topic-one/
      or should it be, http://mysite.com/review/topic-one
      without the trailing / ?

Will SE's think that they are directories and not give a better PR?

    2. I don't think search engines have a problem with them as most of the time they are called Search Engine Friendly URLs. Just about every site that uses a blogging app (like WordPress), a forum (like bbpress/punbb) or a cms uses modrewrite to clean up the urls. The best thing about mod rewrite is how easy it is for anybody.

Here is an older article on it: http://www.websitepublisher.net/article/search_engine_friendly_urls/5 you can find plenty more searching Google.
